Effects of Porn Addiction on Spiritual Health

Porn addiction means a life of guilt and constant hiding. It may be that a porn addict can hide away from society, but never from his conscience. Deep inside a person knows when they are doing something wrong. Porn addiction is not a normal life; once you are addicted your mind set is altered. The mind is constantly focusing on a part, where they would be unable to share their thoughts with the people around them. A life filled with lies and fantasy cannot fulfill a person. One’s spiritual health will suffer greatly. Instead of cooperating with loved ones, a porn addict becomes enclosed in his own world. Getting addicted to porn is a selfish existence that does not offer growth and desire for real companionship. It is limiting, it hinders. It makes the addict afraid to confront his mistakes and offer a way to ask for repentance and turn his life back around.

It secretly poisons a person’s mind into thinking that porn addiction is harmless. But the truth is that it can destroy marriage, a person’s self esteem, the respect people give you. All of this can get taken by porn addiction. Pornography is corrupted; it is perverted lust that leads to social isolation. At first it might offer a temporary relief from the fear of disappointment from failed relationships. But in the long run as it stops the individual from finding a way to get out of the problem naturally, it leads to their personal dissatisfaction. Depression will set in and will let the person think there is no way out, eventually losing the faith that once gave them the energy to exist.

It will flare up insecurities; married women who watch porn to see how they can improve their sex life in the end torture themselves. An addicted person will begin to hide in the dark, not seeking for renewal and growth. If a church pastor chooses not to address this issue, because it is taboo, repentance would be hard to attain. This addiction needs the guidance of a spiritual father dedicated to helping lost people. Addicts must realize that they cannot free themselves. A porn addict must first see that his addiction is not normal, and that this is the reason why he feels empty. Repentance is a process that a porn addict must go through, it is not just the remorse, but the need to pull from it and change.
